A NEW STANDARD NEEDED
FOR THE
LAMBERHURST & BAYHAM BRANCH
ROYAL BRITISH LEGIONAn Appeal has been launched to acquire a New Standard, for our Local Branch of the British Legion.
The present standard, c1953, which is in dire need of replacement and has seen better days, has done sterling service over the years, representing Lamberhurst & Bayham at not only Village Services but also various National and Local Events, Parades and Ceremonies, most recently at the funeral of a Serviceman from Afghanistan.
Unfortunately any monies raised by Branches of the British Legion must, under the constitution, be added to central funds and the Poppy Appeal. An appeal has therefore commenced, through the Book of Remembrance Fund, towards the cost of a new standard costing in the region of £800.00. A New Standard will enable our local branch to continue to represent us for many years to come.
As part of the laying up of the old standard and the dedication of the new, the Branch will also need to provide funds for a band, order of service, transport and refreshments for approximately 150 people, therefore any contributions would be gratefully received.
For further information, and where to send donations please contact Barbara Uren, 01892 890940, bj.uren@tiscali.co.uk, or Andrew Kerton, 01892 891230, andrew.kerton@btinternet.com .
The “Lamberhurst Book of Remembrance” is on sale in Pete Sands, the Butchers, and will also be available at the Country Fair on the 10th July, for a minimum, donation of £10.00 per copy. All proceeds towards the New Standard Appeal.
It is planned to hold the New Standard’s Official Dedication Service, Parade and Celebration on Saturday October 2nd.
HOW FAST IS LAMBERHURST'S BROADBAND?
At the Annual parish Meeting in April there was a discussion about the variable quality of broadband connections in the parish. The Parish Council agreed to investigate this. The pdf below gives you a number of hints and tips to improve your connection. The document also contains a survey request. Please take time to give us feedback to enable us to evaluate the overall service in the village.

TRIAL VILLAGE PLANNER
Lamberhurst is very fortunate to have so many events and functions each year provided by various societies, clubs and other groups, and it is often difficult for some of these events not to clash. There is now an opportunity for everyone who holds an event to check in advance of the availability of dates.
For 2009 there will be a trial of a year planner, and if it is successful we will have a perpetual calendar, and a yearly diary. It is hoped that the local societies, groups, clubs etc, will display forthcoming dates for their events, thus limiting clashes. In addition this will be helpful to the wider community if they wish to choose which event they wish to attend and support.
The planner will be on display on the new notice board outside the village hall. The intention is to have each society/club/group to be colour coded with corresponding key and contact number. Due to the size of the planner only limited information will be able to be displayed, ie Mugs – Duck Race. The diary however can hold further information, such as location and times.
Daphne has kindly said the diary can be kept in the parish office and she can be contacted via email
daphne@parishoffice.info for those who cannot get to the parish office during opening hours, 9am-5pm Wednesdays and Thursdays (phone 01892 890256).
If anyone wishes to have any further details please do not hesitate in contacting Jill Haskell on 01892 890802
KENT KARRIER – RURAL COMMUNITY TRANSPORT FOR TUNBRIDGE WELLS
The Kent Karrier Community Transport service operates from each of our rural towns and villages on separate days of each week. The Kent Karrier is a fully accessible dial-a-ride service which takes its members directly from their door to the nearest town centre. Membership is £5 per year, with a small fee payable for each journey.
You are eligible to join the Kent Karrier scheme if:
You have a medical condition that makes travelling on conventional public transport difficult. You live in a rural area more than 500 metres from a conventional bus route.
You should book your journey at least a day in advance. A companion, for example, your carer can travel with you and does not need to be a member; they just pay the journey fare.
